When the Strait of Hormuz was cut off to shipping, that took 20 million barrels of oil a day off the market.
China quietly, through reduced imports and other measures, managed to save the world from $150–$200-a-barrel oil and massive shortages.
China quietly saved the world last month (or now 2 months ago)

Luckily their leaders are at least marginally competent.

+100 social credit points for you all, but the Xi regime wasn't being magnanimous; they're oil importers and have every incentive to avoid an oil shock.

Yeah, you're right. China was helping China.
They didn't want to pay high oil prices themselves and hurt their export trading partners if a global recession happened.
But... just saying, it would have been the perfect time to hurt the U.S. in retaliation for higher tariffs. But there's also the theory that you gain more power if the other side knows you can hurt them but actually aren't doing it.
Overall, I'm glad things aren't worse, and I'm waiting for gas prices to drop back down to where they were before all this started.

Why? The US is readily doing that on their own. No need to intervene and be a scapegoat.

So, never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake?
