Some people, including a few members of my own family, believe that Elon absolutely sucks, yet many people love driving their Teslas on FSD because it makes long trips much more enjoyable.
A Tesla offers real luxury and accessibility while helping keep you and others safe on the road. It gives you more time to relax and lets you trust FSD to handle much of the driving. However, it is still your responsibility to stay alert and watch the road because FSD is only a driver-assistance system.
Tesla Now Has Nearly 1.5 Million FSD Subscribers

I guess people can try to hold out as long as possible, maybe even up to 10 years, like the flip phone users who waited a long time before buying an all-screen smartphone.
Maybe by then, Ford or another automaker will have something to offer.

You must mean me, because I just drove from Northern Virginia to Cleveland and back, and adaptive cruise control was good enough for me.

Maybe. What's certain, though, is that that's what it would take for me ever to have a car with this feature.

Quote:The average American spends about 54 minutes per day driving. That's 6.5 hours per week. Over 300 hours per year.
Six months ago, I thought FSD was an expensive gimmick for tech bros who had more money than sense. Now I think manual driving is an unnecessary risk that we'll look back on the way we look back on not wearing seatbelts.
The future is already here. The only question is how long you're going to wait to join it.

I agree that a lot of people will want self-driving cars, but over-the-top hype like "The psychological relief is massive" is ridiculous. Driving a car just isn't that big a deal.

If a person is following the Tesla FSD disclaimer, then they still have to be alert and attentive while sitting there. It isn’t saving time, so I dont understand this argument.

I loved the part where the guy said that with self-driving cars you can listen to audiobooks. I've been doing that in the car for twenty years.

You joke, but I have a Samsung Galaxy S20 from six years ago and a MacBook Air that's nearly a decade old now, and they still work fine. Why would I waste money fixing what isn't broken?
I'm all for technological progress. Yes, I can envision an eventual future in which most people get robo-chauffeured rather than drive themselves. (Or better, flying around in self-piloting passenger drones.) All I'm saying is that this article's author is laying the hype on thick so that I'll feel FOMO right now, and it's not working.
That said, I do tip my hat to all of those who overpay for the latest thing so that it will be affordable by the time I'm actually interested. Thanks, guys!
