Edit Reason: added "1."
)
At some earlier point, We discussed the potentiality of a Space Force Academy.
Last night's news stated that the President wants a "Space Academy." No location was mentioned. Where should it be built?
I have some thoughts:
1. San Francisco. The Star Trek fan in me makes me think San Francisco. There are more practical reasons to build it there.
2. Andover, Maine. More nostalgia with this choice. It was the location for Earth Station Andover, built to communicate with the Telstar Satellite.
3. Florida Space Coast.
4. Houston, Texas.
Thoughts?

Not a chance Trump will build his hypothetical space academy, let alone anything, in “liberal/commie/socialist/shithole” San Francisco. He disparages the city any chance he gets.
I see the militarization of space as the antithesis of Star Trek. If he wants to built this then he needs to justify to congress and the American people why this is a necessary expenditure when the US is over forty trillion in debt and growing exponentially.

We don't even have enough weapons to finish the war with Iran. He takes on a new project every couple of months, and it ends up a mess. We need to require presidential candidates to take cognitive tests with publicized scores.

So... At this point you cannot envision President Trump's face on Mount Rushmore?
I'm leaning towards Andover, Maine for the location of the Space Academy.

I am envisioning the debt we're racking up in record time, even though we're neither in a pandemic nor in an official recession. That's what we get for letting DOGE be run by a crackhead.

Wishing you the best.
I was just gently reminded that I publicly stated that it is my intention to refrain from bickering about politics here.
I am genuinely interested to see what form and shape the Space Academy will take

I dont think it will happen. Just another empty promise. The Navy and NASA already had/have programs to train astronauts, but given how much NASA was destroyed by DOGE, and military refocused for war, our space capabilities have diminished significantly.
We are largely dependent on Russia for alot of ISS and low earth orbit transit as well as communication and resupply, though a few private companies (like SpaceX) are trying to fill the gap left by the decades of funding cuts. The US has no capabilities of their own to get to space.
I suspect Trump’s real plan is to continue to pour money into this military industrial complex to weaponize space in the most cost ineffective manner. I suspect a large part of this push will be for data centers in space rather than promoting science or training astronauts. These centers will be the new “oil” and space the new “middle-east”. It isnt happenstance that the billionaires running these rocket companies are also the ones pushing these space data centers.
You might not like politics being brought in, but it is part of the reason I dont think this academy will happen. Trump will just give money to his billionaire friends through more no-bid contracts.
Bow down to our corporate oligarchs.

Quote from NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman:
Quote:A new NASA-led institution for the next era of American leadership in space.
The U.S. Space Academy will help develop the technical talent, discipline, and leadership our nation needs to meet the challenges ahead.
As I understand, this will be for both the military and civilian sectors.
This could be built in a lot of places. The United States is currently the undisputed leader in the global space industry, and we need to keep it that way.
